Rocky Road 2018

Dinosaur themed festival looking for volunteers

Submitted by Sarah McCrae

This year themed ‘Dinosaur Jungle’,’ the Rocky Road Ice Cream Carnival is a fun-filled afternoon full of wall-climbing, games, face painting, cool crafts, stories, parachute and of course- Ice Cream! Happening at Augustana University’s gymnasium on January 28, 2018 from 1-4 pm with admission fee of $5 and a food bank donation per person you will be able to have all of the fun and ice cream you would like!

The Rocky Road Ice Cream Carnival is an annual event that was created in 1993 by students looking to put on an event where the children and youth of Camrose could come out for a fun-filled afternoon. This event has since been adopted and is now coordinated by Augustana’s Residence Life staff. The program has evolved and now tries to benefit a different charitable organization each year that has a positive impact on the Camrose community.

This year Rocky Road is happening in support of Breakfast Clubs that are hosted in six schools in Camrose sponsored through Camrose Neighbor Aid. With the help of coordinators and volunteers these Breakfast Clubs make breakfast available for children every school day morning.

As an Augustana student we’d love to have you join in the fun as a volunteer for the event to run any of the activities listed above! Feel free to sign up for an hour shift or come for set up starting at 9:30am in the Gym. In return the first 100 volunteers will receive a free T-shirt to wear during the event as well as the satisfaction that they have put a smile on a child’s face. Oh, and ice cream, we’ll give you a cone or two as well.  Please contact HC Ayla Krangnes at krangnes@ualberta.ca if you’re interested in helping out!
